Honda is working on an electric motorcycle based on the existing CB125R model, reveals the latest patent filings by the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer.

According to a media report, the patents show a fully finished Neo-Sports Café inspired motorcycle with all the chassis parts of the CB125R housing an electric drivetrain.

The rest of the bike’s frame, suspension, and the braking system also bears an uncanny resemblance to the bike’s petrol-powered donor bike.

The patent images also reveal detailed drawings of the electric motor, showcasing a motor with a large diameter and slim profile designed to fit into the small frame of the CB125R.

Honda has already done extensive work on a similar electric drivetrain, for the electrically powered PCX scooter.

Small adaptations to the frame are expected to accommodate the motor and batteries. At the heart of the bike is a small, lightweight electric powerplant. Although performance specs are still under wraps, the electric motor may offer a similar level of performance as 125cc machine it is based on.

Given that the motorcycle is based on an existing model, 75 percent of its construction is already in production enabling Honda to save the development and design budget of an all-new electric model.
