At the automotive supplier Schaeffler, the workforce is increasingly feeling the effects of the crisis. So the enterprise in Schweinfurt and probably also Herzogenaurach is to rest on several days. It also checks whether short-time work is being applied for.

Due to the crisis at automotive supplier Schaeffler, operations are scheduled to be suspended in Schweinfurt on 16 and 17 August, as well as on 4 and 5 October, and presumably for several days around Christmas. The company reacts to the poor order situation , as the general works council chairman of the group, Norbert Lenhard, informed the BR on request. Previously, there had been reports that costs are getting out of hand.

Also at the location Herzogenaurach would be expected with such shutdown days, so Lenhard. Employees must either work overtime on their time accounts or take leave on these days. In Herzogenaurach is also currently being examined whether short-time working is to be applied for. Lenhard rates these flexibilisation instruments as a "lesser evil". They are currently "necessary to keep the number of employees in the company, which is better than to terminate staff for operational reasons," said the head of works council.

Schaeffler discusses a reduction in weekly working hours

Discussed, but not yet decided is a reduction in weekly working hours from 40 to 35 hours. In Lenhard's view, a differentiated approach is necessary: Locations with a good order book, above all in the industrial business, should continue to remain at full working hours, while work could be carried out at shorter intervals in the automotive supply sector.
